Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

2013-05-06 Pool of Clouds
It rained today, and I found this puddle on a piece of wood that nicely reflected the clearing sky.

[last year] too much drama... but i'm back...

With my rented ultra-wide and post-rain conditions, I left work and headed over to Royce Hall and Powell Library, both gorgeous buildings.
Being very careful to center the camera with the building, I took a photo of Powell from the steps of Royce, then walked across and took a photo of Royce from the steps of Powell. Not wanting to choose between the two images, I decided to smoosh them together in Photoshop.
Royce looks better as the top image in my opinion. If you'd like to see it the other way, I invite you to stand on your head.

PS - thanks for all the comments on yesterday's lighthouse photo. I have a DSLR shot of the same scene, which I'll include in a gallery of San Diego pics soon.

_12/16/12_ Fuzzy Rain
This is a composite of two rain-on-my-car-window photos - one with the drops in focus and the other not so much.

_12/02/12_ Wet Plant
It rained today, and this is a plant in our front yard that got wet.
More exciting than that are these photos from Big Bear, where we were last weekend for Thanksgiving and our Anniversary: Big Bear | Nov 12

_11/30/12_ Wet Weave
Today we got some rain. I was attending the last day of a conference at the Marriott in Marina del Rey. It finished midday and before I left I checked out their little trendy outdoor space with all this woven furniture and took some photos of it all wet. Exciting story, I know.

Want to know something else exciting? The new iMacs are finally available to preorder! Mine's placed and I expect to receive it in early January. My first new computer in 4.5 years, yay! And it's going to be freakin' awesome, as I maxed out everything except the RAM.

_10/11/12_ Westwood Rainbow
What does it mean?!
I took this photo near sunset, after a doozy of a little storm passed through Westwood as I was walking home. It was quite a sight and I wasn't the only one who made their way to the roof (or top of a parking garage in my case) to see the amazing view.
This is a 7-shot panorama from my Canon S95, stitched together in Photoshop. I also took some panoramas with my iPhone that were of similar resolution, but it couldn't handle the curve of the rainbow and left jagged edges. I just wish the movie poster on the side of that building wasn't so prominent. I HATE the building-size advertising that is commonplace in LA.

Some brand-new never-worn yellow rain boots. I added clarity to enhance the cool reflections. Definitely a desperation shot. Apparently I'm sticking with the symmetry theme, too.

_04/13/12_ Wet Tile
Thanks for the well wishes, I am still recovering, but certainly doing better than the past few days. I took a short walk in the late afternoon and grabbed this photo. It rained like crazy today, and fortunately I was inside for most of it. There was actual thunder! Very rare for Los Angeles.
Want to see a really amazing shot from the storm? Check this out.

__02/15/12__ Stephanie
This is Stephanie, who is one half of the sculpture titled Stephanie and Shy. The other half a horse, which I'm assuming is the one named Shy. Neither are wearing clothes. The sculpture was created by Robert Graham in 1980-81.
I do realize this would be a highly inappropriate photo if it were of a real person. I thought the reflection was cool, though, made possible by today's rain.

By the way, are you on Twitter? I am, and I tweet occasionally. Follow me: @jawsnap.
