Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

My first daily photo with my new D600! The .nef file is 27mb. Yikes.
Anyways, this is Sam, who I noticed wearing a fun ring with an eyeball and I thought of taking this photo. After work she obliged to be my subject and luckily the sun hadn't quite gone down yet. I like how the sunlight is catching her but the background is already in the shade. It's a subtle difference, I think it worked out well. Just a few minutes later the sun was gone.
I had thought this photo would either be funny or creepy but looking at it now, it doesn't seem either. But I like it.

[last year] grand opening soon...

With my rented ultra-wide and post-rain conditions, I left work and headed over to Royce Hall and Powell Library, both gorgeous buildings.
Being very careful to center the camera with the building, I took a photo of Powell from the steps of Royce, then walked across and took a photo of Royce from the steps of Powell. Not wanting to choose between the two images, I decided to smoosh them together in Photoshop.
Royce looks better as the top image in my opinion. If you'd like to see it the other way, I invite you to stand on your head.

PS - thanks for all the comments on yesterday's lighthouse photo. I have a DSLR shot of the same scene, which I'll include in a gallery of San Diego pics soon.

I like the position of this shadow on the arch of Royce Hall.

_11/07/12_ Important Lights
Got a tour of a fancy high-powered computing facility that lives inside a shipping container. These lights are on the outside. I emphasized their important-ness by getting rid of most of the other color in the shot. I should patent that.

_09/19/12_ Powell from Royce
This panoramic view was taken from inside the breezeway at Royce Hall at UCLA. You can see Powell Library across from it through the columns.
Well my friends, iOS 6 was released today! I upgraded immediately, hoping the panorama feature would be cool. I used it for this photo, obviously.
It's really easy to use, and amazingly fast. I feel really bad for any developer who wrote a panorama app, now that Apple has rendered them useless.
Even though it's fast, the finished product is huge. The photo you see here is edited, including being cropped, and it's still 9990x2378 pixels. Do the math and you'll find that to be nearly 24 megapixels. Pretty ridiculous.
I took dozens of panoramas today, and you better believe I'm doing a blog post on it. I will share more of my valuable thoughts soon.

_03/28/12_ Hallway
Another vast corridor, but this time it's a hallway instead of a bathroom. I tried to frame it so the stairway on the right was just a little bit visible, like a mystery staircase! Oooooh...
In other news, I'll be doing iPhone dailies for the next 5 or 6 days.
Why? I'm going somewhere!
Where? You'll have to wait and see!
Who? Me!
What? You heard me.

This is one of my classmates in the Environmental Portraiture class I just started taking. Today we met at UCLA's Royce Hall to take photos of each other - it was fun! We focused on how light hits the face, and were assigned to take front, side and back-lit portraits.

Her site.

[last year] love these colors...

Done! Today was my last day of work for 2011 and tomorrow we're off to Tucson for about a week. I'm incredibly happy about that.
This is a light in the front walkway of Royce Hall. I stuck around after work to take photos in the nice, quiet, peaceful, student-less evening.

[last year] heard on high...
