Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

_09/01/12_ Bonding
This father/son pair looked like they had fun watching the giant waves roll in. This is about as far out as most people got - there is a high surf advisory this weekend and the water was pretty crazy.

_08/30/12_ California Incline
After two particularly 'bleh' desperation shots, I think I have a winner here. I took some photos of this on 8/22/12 but wasn't happy with the results, but was inspired to come back with SLR, tripod and graduated ND filter. That's exactly what I did tonight, and here's the result.
The California Incline is an old stretch of road that gets people from Pacific Coast Highway up to California/Ocean (and vice versa) in Santa Monica where the high bluffs are. Sometime next year they're going to close and rebuild it, so I'm glad I was able to get this shot.

_08/22/12_ Ship Bench
I felt the need to burn off some energy tonight, so I walked to the ocean and back - about 4 miles. My final destination was Ocean/California, at Palisades Park. There is a bench/sculpture reminiscent of a ship. It overlooks the California Incline, which is a steep slant of a road that takes you from the bluffs down to PCH. It's scheduled to close soon to be rebuilt, which will cause some definite traffic issues.
I actually took some pretty cool photos of the road, but I wasn't satisfied with the handheld quality. I'll go back with a tripod, graduated ND filter and my D7000 sometime and show you that one.

[last year] enchanting eyes...
_07/26/12_ Sunset Fishing
I went to the beach tonight, and took this photo. There's a guy fishing, but of course it's the clouds and sky that I was really taking a photo of.

_07/21/12_ Branch
After I started working on this photo, 'branch' started seeming like a very strange word. BRANCH. Not a very pretty word, really.
Anyways, it's the local branch of the library. It's over-processed a bit, but that's what all the cool kids are doing these days. Gotta love that clarity slider.

_07/17/12_ Seagull
Take at the Santa Monica Pier. This young seagull let me get surprisingly close before pooping on the wood plank. Then it flew away.
Please note that this is a fairly wide angle shot - my S95 was zoomed all the way out. I was only a few feet away from the seagull when I took it.
Did you take note? Are you impressed?

_07/10/12_ Demolition
The old building at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. The new building surrounds it, so they have to be very careful while they tear this one down. It's incredible to watch, and I actually took some video of this massive claw thing that I will post as soon as I cut it together (might be a while). Basically this thing munches away at the building, a little bit at a time. Every once in a while a large amount of debris will crash to the ground. It's crazy, I've never seen anything like it.
I took a photo of it 5 days ago, and that part of the building is now gone. They're moving pretty quickly...

[last year] deserves to be re-shot...
_07/08/12_ Green
A new energy efficient medical building across from the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. The building isn't the prettiest, but I do like the design. The really exciting thing is that it has an automated parking garage - the first one on the west coast. I'm curious to see how that works...

_07/05/12_ Ripped Apart
I've been at a new hospital a lot lately, and it's very nice. This is the old one that they've been demolishing.
I finally took my SLR and tripod over today to photograph it - AND take video! My D7000 does that, so I played around. Sadly I have almost no storage left on my hard drive, so it may be a little while before I experiment more.
It's amazing though - there's a giant machine with a huge mouth-like claw on the end that basically 'bites' the building and crushes it to demolish it. It's a very tedious process since the building is huge and it's right next to the working hospital. It's incredible to watch though... just wait for the video. It's crazy.
