Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Star Trails
Texas Spring Campground
This was prety much my first attempt at star trail photography, and while this image might look decent, I ran into a lot of problems. I'll explain later.
_11/12/11_ LA Night Sky
Had a fun day hanging out with a visiting friend in Hollywood, afterwards we ended up at Griffith Observatory. I love my wife - we went here mainly so I could take a photo. And I didn't even have my big camera!
Roads of interest - the near-vertical well-lit street on the right is Normandie, flanked by Western on the right and Vermont on the left. The bright complex along Vermont is Kaiser Permanente, at the intersection with Sunset. You can see Sunset trail off towards downtown LA with all the tall buildings.

_10/26/11_ Reflecting Pool
Quick shot of a pool in the sculpture garden. I liked the colors with the different reflections.

_10/08/11_ Dume Dusk
I got a couple new toys today, including a split ND filter that I used for this shot. I'm still trying to figure out the best ways of using it - a shot similar to this without the filter wasn't dramatically different. I like the subtle streaks in the sky (thanks to clouds that are far beyond the horizon) and the fact that Santa Cruz island is visible in the center of the photo. Here's a setup photo.
To get this vantage point, I had to climb over lots of rocks and get kind of creative. Point Dume is in Malibu and marks the northernmost point of the Santa Monica Bay. There are tide pools, rock climbing, hiking and hidden beaches - it's a pretty cool place.
Check out my Facebook page if you want to see the other toy I got. Or just wait until I use it in a daily photo...

_10/05/11_ Sunset
RIP, Steve. I love his bicycle analogy. In honor, I will start referring to computers as 'braincicles'. It has a better ring to it than 'braincycles'.
I was excited to head to the beach this afternoon after a very rainy day, especially for early October. It was cold and windy, but at least this guy posed for me. Not really, of course - I have no idea who he is. I'm just happy he turned to the side to make a more interesting silhouette.

_04/20/11_ Blue Sky
This was supposed to be a sunset, but the plane didn't clear the cloud bank until 10-15 minutes afterwards. The flight was Denver to Omaha - I'll be spending some time with my wife's family in Iowa. Stay tuned for tomorrow's photo to see why...
Oooh, suspenseful!

_10/29/10_ Building & Sky
And the moon, too! But since this is a desperation shot with my phone, the moon is pretty tiny. My sister came into town today for a weekend visit! Hopefully I'll have some cool daily photos from all the fun places we'll see in the next few days...

Palm trees and a beautiful sky in Santa Monica. The sky wasn't quite this blue in real life, but I wanted to play around with the colors. I've lived in SoCal for over 3 years now and I never really gave the palm tree much thought. But now that I've moved to Santa Monica, I swear every other living thing is a palm tree. They're everywhere, lining every street. It's not a bad thing at all, but man, there's a lot of palm trees. Prepare to see a lot of them in my dailies :)
