Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Mel & Rose Chef Person
Our 3rd and final planned stop was at ink.sack for lunch but they didn't have a bathroom, which I needed. I walked a few doors down to Mel & Rose, which sells lots of booze and has this guy out front. I bought a Red Bull in exchange for toilet privileges. It came in handy later on.
_07/28/12_ Hold Me Close
A wooden figurine we got last year in Mozambique. This one was made by 'Chozi'.
I did take a photo of it before, back on 2/21/12, but I think this is different enough to count.

_05/06/12_ Raku Rhino
This colorful rhino is created in the Japanese raku-style, although we did buy it in South Africa. They had all sorts of different animals, but we chose this one, partly because we never saw one in the wild. I think this might actually be the final Africa souvenirs to make it into my One/Day Project. I already took photos of all the others.

In other news, I've decided to take this gallery out of the Daily Photos community. At least for now.
There's been a lot of talk about people upset with the thumbs up/down and PhotoRank. I really don't think there's anything malicious going on. I do miss the thumbs up/down buttons on the Daily Photo galleries, because I used them to quickly give people thumbs up as I usually don't have time to look through and comment on the photos I like. And yes, occasionally I used the evil thumbs down button, too. It's OK not to like everything.
My biggest issue, however, is that I feel like I lost a level of control over my own galleries. I want my galleries to have a certain look and feel, and I want to have my custom nav banner at the top. I lost that with the recent changes. I know there's a big redesign coming up, and I'd be happy to rejoin if things are improved.
If you're a member of the Daily Photos community and you want to keep seeing my photos, please bookmark this gallery. Or contact me on Twitter [@jawsnap]. I'll be around, still posting every day.

Less-Creepy Statue
This statue is much less disturbing than the previous photo. Still not something I would put in my yard, though.
Creepy Statue
Why, oh why, would you put a statue like this on your house? There were actually multiple copies of this.
Marilyn
I had heard about this Marilyn Monroe statue a few months ago, but I didn't really appreciate how giant it is (not that this photo helps with that...).
Every time we walked or rode by it, someone would walk underneath, look up her skirt, and then smile to have their photo taken. Men, women, kids... it was a spectacle.
Four Ladies
I'm sure these four figures represent something, but I have no idea what. Greek goddesses of... science? Yeah, I don't know.
We caught the last bus back to our hotel downtown, and the MSI campus was a ghost town by then, having closed about 45 minutes earlier. I would have liked to know more about the building.
Concerned Lion
One of two lions guarding the entrance to the Art Institute. He really looks worried to me. I'm not sure why - a 10 foot tall lion shouldn't be afraid of much.
