Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

I'm guessing the birthday was a few days ago. This is my first color photo (or partial color, anyways) in almost a week. Huh.

Target Practice
I bet the neighbors to the east love this person.
Counter-intuitive
This sign means that you shouldn't put trash there. Seriously.
Colgate
Colgate, Sprite, Palmolive - all sorts of ads were painted on the older buildings, even though it looked like they were completely unoccupied.
Trash Management
Just a block from the main intersection of town, this person was going through the trash as it burned around them.
_03/25/11_ Beach Trash
I braved the cold wind and went to the beach this afternoon around sunset to take some photos. I really was not expecting this tennis ball to be the most compelling shot I took, but those ripples are just crazy cool looking. I actually looked around for an object more interesting or natural than a tennis ball - heck, a rock would have been nice - but this was all I saw.
Other highlights included a golf ball, cool sand formations from the last storm and a dead seagull. It was... not the most exciting trip to the beach.

_09/08/10_ Not HDR Stairs
Apple released iOS 4.1 today, which brings HDR functionality to the iPhone 4. I played around with it tonight around sunset with overcast skies, and none of my 18 photos are better with HDR - pretty disappointing. The HDR photos flatten contrasty areas (like the plastic bag) and don't bring a whole lot of extra range - the blown out portion in this photo was still blown out in the HDR version, although you could sort of make out the power line pole. In other photos, there were actual ghosting artifacts which could be explained by hand movement, except I kept my hand pretty still.
The EXIF data is the same for both the regular and HDR photos, only the file name and file size are different. I'll try some more shots tomorrow in daylight.

_05/11/10_ Street Trash
Not a very picturesque photo today - it's a shopping cart filled with trash, next to an on ramp for the 405 South. I liked the shadows, and it was pretty random to find a shopping cart completely filled with trash.

[last year] I should really revisit this tree as a subject...

...and our trash cans blue. I left work a little early and went on a nice ride along the ocean before heading home. It was a pretty dreary overcast day along the coast, so I had to look for interesting subjects rather than interesting light. I assume this giant group of trash cans gets put out along the beach when there are more than 3 people on the beach.
I partly desaturated all except blue, since it stood out anyways.

Also, thanks for all the comments on yesterday's photo!
