Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Tulips
I was worried we would be too early for tulips, but they were everywhere! Especially along Michigan Avenue - it was gorgeous.
Fuzzy Purple Flowers
This fun, fuzzy tree was in between some buildings at the Northwestern Medical campus. My wife's father went to medical school there, so it was fun to see. Unlike the public universities that I'm used to, however, we were not allowed to wander inside any of the buildings.
Overcast
This is what the weather was like for the first 3 days we were there, but luckily it was bright and sunny for the 4th. The farthest building is the Sears/Willis Tower.
_04/11/12_ Shiny Bug
Hey guess what?! I finally installed LR4 today and used it to edit and upload this photo! I haven't played with it much, but I do appreciate that the interface isn't terribly different, and that Jeffrey Friedl's plugin still works, although I did have to re-register it and pass a few more dollars his way. Money well spent.
In other Lightroom-related news, I'm almost done with my Chicago photos, so keep an eye out for that gallery.
This photo is of a Volkswagen Beetle that I found parked on the side of the road. It was exceptionally shiny, and the road was lined with palm trees, so I thought it would make a good reflective subject. I came upon it on a short walk around my neighborhood. I got a little lightheaded, but I am feeling better than yesterday and Tuesday!

[last year] one of my favorites with no subject...
_03/16/12_ Ficus & Ivy
Here's the only shot I took today, except a shot of my delicious dinner to share on Facebook - people LOVE seeing what other people are eating. Don't you? Of course you do.
This tree is just outside my work, and it looked especially neat after a little bit of rain. If I had more lighting equipment, I'd consider doing a series on ficus roots in LA. There are so many neat ones to choose from. This shot is straight out of camera, which I don't normally do, but the iPhone did a fantastic job with the exposure.

_03/14/12_ Sprinkler Scene
I snapped a shot of some sprinklers on the way into work today. I really like how it turned out with the 1/1250 shutter speed - the water drops kind of look like noise.

[last year] happy pi day again...
2012-03-05 Coral Tree Reach
I love these trees. This particular one is near the dance buildings at UCLA, but I really love them along San Vicente Blvd. I took this shot when the sun was illuminating only the top of the tree, which has tons of red flowers right now. Despite the interesting lighting and nice colors, I thought it was better as a B&W, since it's more about the shape of the branches.

__02/13/12__ Back o' Bunche
This is the back of Bunche Hall at UCLA. It's neat to see a building from this vantage point in general, but it helped that I like the shape the trees created. The reflections in the tan part of the building are interesting, too.

__02/12/12__ Katie
This is our friend Katie, who agreed to be a model for me, since I needed some more shots for my Environmental Portraiture class on Monday. It worked out great - she was a wonderful model and the light was quite lovely. This shot is on the bridge over PCH that we walked over to get down to the beach. I got some good beach photos, too, but I liked this one because of the shapes and patterns and crazy backlight.
There is a large reflector (piece of white foam core) just to my left that my assistant/wife held to illuminate her face.

[last year] beautiful engineering...
