Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

2013-05-01 Lounge Chairs
Today, I got the lovely opportunity to visit the Chancellor's residence for a an intimate cello/piano recital. They have these great old lounge chairs by the small pool. Some ducks were there, too.
That's a good story.

2013-04-29 Stair Art
This scary head was drawn on the wall at the top of a stairwell that I climbed for exercise. I got a straight-on photo that looks better, but since it's not my artwork I felt obligated to post a photo of it in it's surroundings.

2013-04-26 Library Books
Today I went on a tour of our library's preservation/conversation areas - these old books are all awaiting some sort of repair. It's a behind-the-scenes part of libraries that I hadn't given a lot of thought to before today. It was really neat to learn about the process and see the tools they use to make repairs.

2013-04-20 Covel Stairs
Covel Commons is a big conference spot at UCLA, up where the dorms are. We were there earlier in the day and I took this photo of the winding central staircase. Did some extra stylizing in Lightroom.

2013-04-11 Plastic Windows
As happens occasionally, tents are springing up around campus. Good thing they have the right colors.

2013-04-05 Woman Walker
Like last year, today was the fun Edible Book Festival at the UCLA Library. I took photos, but I'm not choosing any as my photo of the day. Instead, what you're seeing here is a performance of Trisha Brown's Man Walking Down the Side of a Building, which in this case was performed by a woman - Amelia Rudolph.
Obviously it was neat to see someone lowered down the side of the building, but the way she appeared to be casually walking in slow motion was really something. You could tell by her face when she reached the bottom that it was no easy feat, although she made it look easy. I also liked the crowd in front that was all laying on the grass looking up at her. Not a bad turnout for a Friday afternoon, but then again, how often do you get a chance to see something like this?

2013-04-01 Light Streaks
Quick shot of some interesting light in New York City.
April fools! It's Los Angeles, cause that's where I live. Gotcha.

2013-03-27 Arches & Clock
I took some photos of the gorgeous Powell Library this afternoon, and this is my favorite, probably because I'm a sucker for symmetry. The clock was originally much higher on the wall, so I moved it down for a more pleasing composition. Cheating? Yeah... pretty much.
jawsnap trivia: this clock also made an appearance on 2009-03-23.

Yesterday's photo was of a baluster! What a strange word!

2013-03-26 Untitled
I try to title all my photos, but I also strive for accuracy. I have NO CLUE what these are called, so that's why it's untitled. Please comment if you know what these thingies are called.
They look very pretty in the late afternoon, though.

Update - thanks KDP450! I guess it is a balustrade, it's kind of around a brick court. I was looking for the name of the individual column thingies, too, if anyone knows that!
Update 2 - thanks arctangent! It's a baluster. Who knew?! Glad you folks were knowledgable, thanks :)
