Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

Today was the last day with my rented ultra-wide lens, and I headed up to Griffith Observatory to take advantage. It was kind of a disaster of a trip beginning with horrible traffic and ending with a locked gate at the exit. But despite that and everything in between, I got some good shots. This one shows the big center dome that houses the planetarium along with a glimpse of the amazing view that you get from this spot.

_12/26/12_ Baboquivari Sunset
This was taken from the Babad Do'ag lookout along Catalina Highway, which takes you up to Mount Lemmon near Tucson. Baboquivari peak is the prominent peak in the far mountain range, with the city of Tucson in the foreground. All of those names (including Tucson) are originally from the Tohono O'odham language.
Now that my wife is out of the hospital and doing much better, it was nice to go on a little photo excursion. Before yesterday, all my daily photos had been iPhone shots for 1.5 weeks. Not that that's bad... but it's indicative of photography being pushed pretty far down on the priority list.

Rim of the World
The stretch of SR-18 that gets you from the Inland Empire to Running Springs (on the way to Big Bear) is called the Rim of the World Drive, with good reason. This photo doesn't represent the best view we got, just the one we actually pulled over for. For many windy miles, you get stunning views of the valley far, far below.

Death Valley, Day 1
Today we drove to Death Valley for our 3rd Anniversary trip. This is a view from Father Crowley Point on highway 190, just before you start the dramatic descent into Panamint Valley - one valley west of Death Valley. The drive wasn't bad, and we were able to get to Texas Springs campground around 2pm. If it had been much later, we wouldn't have gotten a campsite there.

Note to discerning viewers - these next few Death Valley daily photos are NOT iPhone photos like I said they'd be. There was absolutely no data service in the area, so I just waited until I got home to upload daily photos taken with my D80. Sorry for the delay in service :)

_11/12/11_ LA Night Sky
Had a fun day hanging out with a visiting friend in Hollywood, afterwards we ended up at Griffith Observatory. I love my wife - we went here mainly so I could take a photo. And I didn't even have my big camera!
Roads of interest - the near-vertical well-lit street on the right is Normandie, flanked by Western on the right and Vermont on the left. The bright complex along Vermont is Kaiser Permanente, at the intersection with Sunset. You can see Sunset trail off towards downtown LA with all the tall buildings.

Scenic Neighborhood
Here's the amazing view (minus my wife and I) from a spot along the main road that leads to downtown Pemba. This is pretty typical of the local houses, which are bamboo frames with mud/clay plaster applied.
Pemba Overlook
Do we look tired? I compared this photo to the one at the beginning of the gallery, and it's clear the tropical sun was taking a toll. We survived.
This was taken at a particularly good view along the main road that leads to downtown Pemba.
Hey You
Far, far below the road was a kid trying to get our attention - he saw the camera. Of course we took his photo, but I was hoping he would do something interesting.
Red Rock
Another cool view along Schnebly Hill Road.
