Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

A fountain at the Westfield mall in Century City. I grabbed dinner there before heading to the Annenberg to see Ben Lowy give a talk. He's done some really amazing conflict work, and has been a pioneer by using his iPhone as a legitimate photojournalism tool. He also curses much more than the average presenter, so that was fun, too!
While not photojournalism, I did use an iPhone to take this photo of the water. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the comments on yesterday's daisy photo. I can see how the misting might be a little overdone but I actually like it, because it wasn't really supposed to look natural in general. I appreciate the feedback, though!

_12/14/11_ Night Inversion
Due to an unexpected holiday party, I stayed at work a little later than usual. It allowed me to photograph some fountains without that pesky daylight forcing me to use fast shutter speeds. This is the Inverted Fountain, also seen in this gallery on 9/1/11. The crazy sheen on the water is due to the reflection of a bright light mounted on the nearby building. I was surprised the colors came out the way they did, but I like it.

In other news, I added a few photos of my wife and I to the Death Valley gallery. You know, to give it a nice human touch.

[last year] I won a prize with this photo and a pair of pants on the day this photo was taken...
Waterfall
R36 near J. G. Strijdom Tonnel
At our request, we stopped to get some photos of this scene spot right before the tunnel that opens up into the lowveld (where Kruger and everything is).
_05/29/11_ Escondido Falls
Impressive waterfall in Escondido Canyon. A very easy and pleasant trail takes you to a small falls after about 1.5 miles, but then you can do a little bit of climbing to get to the upper falls (pictured here) which involves holding onto a rope to get past a steep muddy spot and some light bouldering. In case you're wondering - yes, I was standing in the water to take this photo.
Here's a 360 degree view of the falls, taken with the Photosynth iPhone app - http://bit.ly/mOWMHv

McWay Cove
Amazing place where a waterfall drops directly onto the beach.

Inland from McWay Cove is a very nice trail through redwoods.
Mini Falls
Akaka Falls State Park, Hawaii
A quaint little stream near the towering Akaka Falls.

Another shot of Akaka Falls, showing the lush cliffs around it. I particularly like this shot because of the difference in the water in the main falls versus the little trickles on the right.
Bottom
Akaka Falls State Park, Hawaii
This is the bottom of Akaka Falls, the power of the water is very apparent. I had to stand up on a ledge to get an angle on this - it was very hard to see the bottom otherwise.
