Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

2013-05-10 Hammer Stripe
The Hammer Museum in Westwood features bold horizontal stripes of white and black marble. I liked this photo because of the various streetlights reflecting off of it, taken right around sunset.

Some grainy, deteriorating steps at the Westwood Brewing Company, where a handful of us grabbed a drink after work.

_10/11/12_ Westwood Rainbow
What does it mean?!
I took this photo near sunset, after a doozy of a little storm passed through Westwood as I was walking home. It was quite a sight and I wasn't the only one who made their way to the roof (or top of a parking garage in my case) to see the amazing view.
This is a 7-shot panorama from my Canon S95, stitched together in Photoshop. I also took some panoramas with my iPhone that were of similar resolution, but it couldn't handle the curve of the rainbow and left jagged edges. I just wish the movie poster on the side of that building wasn't so prominent. I HATE the building-size advertising that is commonplace in LA.

_09/24/12_ Westwood Reflected
As part of my training for this Friday's Stair Climb for Los Angeles, I climbed 6 different staircases at UCLA this afternoon. This is the view out of the 14th floor of the Factor building. The high-rises are along Wilshire Boulevard. I turned on HDR to see if it would help this high dynamic range situation. It did not. HDR sucks on the iPhone.
But anyways, it was a good workout, and I'm pretty confident I can handle the 75 stories on Friday. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some stretching to do.

_08/07/12_ Drain
This is/was a storm drain. A good place to get lock jaw, no doubt. Pretty much a desperation shot, but at least it's not quite as desperate as yesterday's.

__01/09/12__ Lamps and Lights
This is a tree and lamp lined street in Westwood, where I hung out waiting for my Environmental Portraiture class to start. That's right - I'm taking a real live class! I've never taken a formal photography class before, so I'm pretty excited. So far, the class is cool! Expect to see quite a few portraits - along with some environment! - in the next few months.

_03/31/11_ Building Lines
Well, I've made it through the first month of the fourth year of this crazy project. I hope tomorrow is full of foolery for you.
This shot is two buildings along Wilshire Boulevard. I was in a building a across the street where my wife got LASIK today - thanks for all the well-wishes from yesterday's photo! The surgery went well and now she's busy napping, just like they told her to.
The staff were really cool: I not only got to sit in and watch the surgery but I got to take photos, too! None of them were particularly flattering or interesting, so I will not share them here, sorry. It was very interesting to see the surgeon and support staff work, although I cringed a few times with all the poking and prodding going on.

__01/28/11__ Framed Fox
The glowing blueish light in the lower left is the Fox Theater in Westwood - I liked how the palm trees in a courtyard a few blocks away framed it. I got this shot while walking to the bus stop after finishing my 3rd week in a remarkably intense fitness program at work.

__01/06/11__ Clock Tower
I took this shot of a tower in Westwood as I left work today. You'd think it's some historic building that has a really cool story behind it, but it's not, and doesn't. It is currently home to a dental practice. At least it was the last time I looked.
