Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

As happens occasionally, tents are springing up around campus. Good thing they have the right colors.

2013-03-25 Colored Windows
After only a single full day, we headed back to LA. This photo is from the terminal in Tucson. It was a quick trip, but we packed some great things into it, including meeting yesterday's subject.

Adventurous architecture is not something you'd expect from a federal government building, and this building on Wilshire sure doesn't rock the boat.
I walked up close to the building so the fanning effect (?) of the vertical lines was pronounced. I made sure one of the lines was right in the center of the photo. Black and white seemed like a natural choice... one I've been making a lot lately.

_09/09/12_ Building & Sky
I was hesitant about this, because the grainy super-contrast look you see here seems to be cliche with buildings. But I like it, and I couldn't help myself.
This building is nearly 3 miles from my house, and I actually walked there and back. I'm determined to participate in the Great LA Walk again this year, and I want to make it the whole way this time. Last year I did well, but then my feet crapped out after 14 miles, so I didn't quite make it to the ocean. Anyways, this morning was my first attempt at practicing for that. I'm planning on doing more urban hikes in the near future.

Nothing to add to the title, really...

_07/27/12_ Bunche of Windows
This is Bunche Hall at UCLA. I've taken photos of it before, but I've never noticed it with the light like you see here. It makes the windows all look like... I don't know.
Something.

Also, happy Olympics! The opening ceremony was tonight and it was ... not so great. At least not watching it on NBC. It made me thing back to Beijing - I was in Tucson at the time, and watched it with my family. At some point, I stepped outside to take a photo of this.

A new energy efficient medical building across from the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. The building isn't the prettiest, but I do like the design. The really exciting thing is that it has an automated parking garage - the first one on the west coast. I'm curious to see how that works...

A building at night! That's what this is!

_10/11/09_ Blue Windows
Spent the night in San Diego, near the Gaslamp district where we spent time with some recently-married friends. This morning, I took this shot out of our hotel window of a residential high-rise across the street. I wish there had been someone outside on the balcony to make the shot more interesting but I wasn't willing to wait around for that. I used Photoshop to straighten the lines that were distorted from the lens.
