Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

2013-05-14 Remote
Desperation shot of the Apple TV remote, which I used a lot today while home sick.

2013-05-06 Pool of Clouds
It rained today, and I found this puddle on a piece of wood that nicely reflected the clearing sky.

[last year] too much drama... but i'm back...
2013-04-27 Handrail
A metal handrail mounted on horizontal wood planks, with shadows from vertical poles on a fence. That is literally what it is.

2013-04-08 Red Over Yellow
At the end of a extraordinarily exciting and entertaining NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, Louisville (red) defeated Michigan (yellow) 82-76. It just happened about an hour ago!
This is my tribute photo.

2013-03-16 Fence & Tree
I love this orange-barked tree, but I don't know what it is. There are some neighborhoods where this tree lines the streets, and it looks really cool.
This one had a fence built around it, which is interesting. I should have gotten lower to have the fence slats be more parallel in the image, but oh well.

__02/25/13__ Marimba
Tonight I stayed after work to see Knock on Wood: Music for Marimbas, by the UCLA Percussion Ensemble. It was fun! The pieces were quite varied, including a mesmerizing 15-minute Reich piece, but ending with a generous handful of ragtime songs. I grabbed this quick shot of one of the instruments afterwards.

__01/24/13__ Wave
This photo is looking up the spiral staircase at the Old Point Loma Lighthouse in Cabrillo National Monument, where I hung out for a few hours before we drove back North. The 1854 lighthouse was fun, but the tide pools were amazing - what epic scenery! Of course, the waves were pretty rough and the tide wasn't out, so I couldn't do any actual tidepooling, but I got to explore some really neat rocks and climb around a little.
Stay tuned for DSLR photos from San Diego, hopefully I'll get a gallery posted this weekend.

_12/31/12_ Center Cloud
[almost] HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I headed down to the Santa Monica Pier to get some sort of end-of-the-year sunset shot. I really like the shapes and lines in this scene, and how the cloud was pretty much dead center. (I always keep the grid turned on in the camera app to help frame stuff like that.)
Unlike most folks, my 365 project does not end today - it ends on February 28th, and then I'll start Year 6.

[last year] still have some of these, kinda forgot about them...
_12/25/12_ Trio of Jesi
The title is assuming that Jesi is the plural of Jesus.
These vastly different baby Jesus figures are from nativity scenes that my parents have. They have quite a collection and I wanted to get a photo of ALL of the baby Jesi at once, but there was too much dynamic range and all of the light colored ones were overexposed. I didn't have the energy to try and figure out a way around it, so I just chose three.
I received some pretty great gifts this year, but above all: my wife is now out of the hospital. Can't beat that. Merry Christmas!
