Welcome to the One/Day Project

Here you will find hundreds of photos that I've taken every day since 2/29/2008. I reached my initial goal of making it to leap day 2012 (after 1462 photos), but I'm still going - the new goal is to make it to Monday, 2/29/2016.

Every photo in these galleries is a unique creation from that day. My intent is to create art, and I've taken great care to create most of these photographs. In addition to not uploading simple snapshots, I try incredibly hard not to repeat myself.

Please enjoy, and feel free to comment. Like the shot? Give it a thumbs up. Really like it? Buy a print or digital download.

Thanks for looking!

_10/22/12_ Happy
This is a back massager. Off camera flash, posterboard for the background... that's pretty much it. It's kind of like a cute Sputnik.
Can you think of a better photo title than 'happy'? I tried, but everything seemed overtly sexual.

More aquarium photos are coming soon! I've pared them down from 418 to 66, so I'm making progress.

_10/19/12_ Lumpy Heads
Some very unflattering light on a little carving of two figures embracing. Same as this one.

_09/11/12_ Empty Shelves
These shelves used to hold current journals in this library. They're no longer needed, because no one does research anymore. I mean, because most of them are online now.
I always liked these rows of shelves, they are very aesthetically pleasing to me, and I'm sad to see them go. At least I got one last photo. I wish I could have moved the study carrel in the back out of the way so the lines were truly uninterrupted.

_08/25/12_ Fourteen
On a very gray day, we headed out to the Point Vicente Interpretive Center in Rancho Palos Verdes and had a lovely picnic lunch. I saw some dolphins feeding, but missed some humpback whales that apparently were putting on a show. This was our 3rd or 4th visit, but the 1st time we went in the little museum. It was nice, I highly recommend it.
The fence near the building has the posts numbered for some reason. They have some pretty strongly-worded signs about climbing over the fence. Of course, even the stupidest drunk person should be able to tell that you'll almost certainly die if you fall off the cliff. But it only takes one...

[last year] turns out these suck as actual coasters...
_08/24/12_ Track
This is an empty card catalog drawer, rotated on its side. The track is for the backing that holds all the cards upright at the front of the drawer.

[last year] one of my best made-up words...
_08/22/12_ Ship Bench
I felt the need to burn off some energy tonight, so I walked to the ocean and back - about 4 miles. My final destination was Ocean/California, at Palisades Park. There is a bench/sculpture reminiscent of a ship. It overlooks the California Incline, which is a steep slant of a road that takes you from the bluffs down to PCH. It's scheduled to close soon to be rebuilt, which will cause some definite traffic issues.
I actually took some pretty cool photos of the road, but I wasn't satisfied with the handheld quality. I'll go back with a tripod, graduated ND filter and my D7000 sometime and show you that one.

[last year] enchanting eyes...
_08/18/12_ Pole
Today's desperation shot is a pole. There are some things attached to it, like a light. Very exciting indeed.

[last year] final day in Africa...
_08/02/12_ Leap
Today's photo is in honor of the US women's gymnastic team winning gold. If you see the US women's gymnastic team, please don't tell them it was a total desperation shot.
I do like how it turned out though. It's one of about 20 photos I took of it.

[last year] the bush...
_07/28/12_ Hold Me Close
A wooden figurine we got last year in Mozambique. This one was made by 'Chozi'.
I did take a photo of it before, back on 2/21/12, but I think this is different enough to count.
