Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > 11/7/08
Dinner.
It's the house special pizza from a place called Earth, Wind and Flour. Their pizza is fantastic, but otherwise the place is disappointing, especially considering it has a clever name.

This sunflower came in a bouquet from the grocery store. I didn't change the color - this is what it looks like. I know they dyed the stem, because it rubbed off on Ann's hand, but I'm not sure how they did the petals. Regardless, it's pretty! Ann held the flower up in the air while I took the shot so I could get the blue sky as a background.

  The Kleenex® Challenge...10/27/08
The Challenge: Create a piece using Kleenex® tissues.
The Participants: John (300m), Bill Pador, Karina Boese, kre8ive, and myself.
The Result: A nose poking out of strips of Kleenex. My original idea wasn't supposed to look like a mummy, but that's kinda what it turned out as. Many thanks to Ann for letting me use her nose and being patient while I took photos of it!
Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > 8/8/08
The opening ceremonies were amazing!!! I wanted to have an Olympics-related daily for you, but I flew to Tucson today, so my creative time was limited. I shot a lot of neat clouds building up over the deserts, but none were as interesting as this gecko grabbing a bite to eat near a porch light that was left on for hours into the night. I'm surprised I only saw 1 gecko, there was a feast of bugs! I cropped and auto corrected using SmugMug's built-in tools and I'm pretty happy with the results.
By the way, he was running away as I got this shot which is why his rear right foot isn't holding onto anything.
EDIT: Thanks for all the comments!! The gecko is on a vertical stucco wall and I took the shot from below.
Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > __02/16/10__ Spiral Staircase
As I walked around at lunch today, I randomly decided to cut through a building and found this awesome staircase and window. There are also some really cool benches and chairs that I might go back and shoot later.

Also, I got my SF photos uploaded! They're not all captioned and geotagged yet, but they will be.

Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > _04/30/09_ Sand Castle
Rode my bike to the beach today after work and happened across this amazing sand castle. It's actually the bigger of two castles, and I have no idea why there were there or who built them. They're already starting to fall/melt/slip back into the sea ... eventually ... so I'm guessing they were built over the weekend. I don't really know, though, my experience with sand castles is pretty limited. It's hard to get a sense of scale with this shot, but the top chimney was probably 6 feet high.
I shot at my widest angle - 18mm - and got really close to fill the frame. The palm trees in the distance are on top of the bluffs in Palisades Park. Did some minor editing in Lightroom, but nothing too significant.

Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > __02/28/10__ Pacific Sunset
This evening I walked down to the beach for some sunset shots, much as I did last year. I put the camera on a tripod and got as low to the sand as I could and waited for the water to cover these two rocks, then opened the shutter for .8 seconds to get the motion of the retreating water. It's actually a composite - the main image had the sky blown out, so I stole the more detailed one from a photo I took a few seconds later.

Also, this concludes my Year 2 of the One/Day Project!!! I started on 2/29/08, so tomorrow will be the start of Year 3! I'm excited to keep going - I've had a lot of fun so far, and I really appreciate the supportive community on SmugMug. I've also learned a lot along the way and it's very satisfying to go back to the earlier days and see personal improvement.

I'm also working on changes to the website, so stay tuned and bear with me as I tweak things. I wrote a post about finishing two years on my blog, so check it out! Take care and see you all tomorrow!

Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > _03/26/09_ Bunche Hall
This is a building on UCLA's campus, the repetitive windows are just begging to be photographed. In fact, there was another guy taking pictures when I grabbed this shot. I did all the editing in Photoshop, starting with lens correction to make the top of the building perfectly straight. I also used a modified version of the cyanotype hue/saturation preset to give a more overall blue color. I also made some edits to make the shapes of the windows stand out a little more.
I'm excited to have tomorrow off for Cezar Chavez day! My plan is to go on a long bike ride along the ocean... um, while supporting workers' rights.

Jonathan Wilson (jawsnap) > _03/25/09_ Pink Blossoms
Not sure what tree this is, but it's just starting to bloom. The building in the background is Kerckhoff Hall at UCLA and I took the shot as I was walking back to my office. Good thing I did, since I didn't really get another good opportunity to take photos today. I played with the color and luminance in Lightroom and ended up adding some vignetting to bring more focus to the blossoms.

[last year] Another UCLA building...
