Red Dragonfly
6/23/08
Red dragonfly in the UCLA botanical gardens. I tried to figure out the exact species, but it turns out there are many types of red dragonflies that look almost identical. I lucked out because after taking a few shots, I bumped the leaf he was on which made him fly away, but then he landed closer to me than he was before. It is interesting how the veins in the wing fade from red to clear, as opposed to being completely red. This photo has been cropped, and I made small adjustments in levels and applied some sharpening.
