Salt and pepper in space! I was scanning a lot of photos today and I thought "hey, I could scan something for my daily!" You know, instead of using a silly camera. So I started experimenting with different things. It's tough because the scanner only focuses on the top of the glass, so 3-dimensional things aren't really an option. I tried things like my hand and part of my face, but they all looked too weird or scary. In the end I settled on some fresh ground sea salt and pepper, which I carefully placed on the glass of the scanner. I scanned at the max resolution (1200 dpi for my CanoScan LiDE 600f) and obviously did some effects in photoshop.
By the way, you can ignore the camera settings, they're not from the scanner. I had to paste this image over a random shot I took today so that the "date taken" value would be today, instead of blank. In the process, I learned that there are several exif editors you can get to change photo file properties.
