New Marble
9/14/08
Today we went to Newport, RI to see some of the mansions. We toured the Marble House, the Breakers and the Elms, which are all RIDICULOUSLY lavish summer houses. The first two were built by Vanderbilt brothers, and the Elms was built by Edward Berwind, whose fortune was made in coal. I'll write more about this stuff when I throw together a gallery for this trip, sometime this week.
This photo was taken at the Elms, at the sunken garden. Apparently one of these marble pieces had deteriorated, so they replaced it with a shiny new one.
UPDATE: if you saw this photo before, please forget it and look at this version :) I didn't have any photo editing software the day I took it, so I uploaded the plain jpeg file, which was a little flat.

on September 15, 2008love the curves and tone. How strange that they didn't do a better match for the replacement, but sure makes for a great photo!
