Pokey Poppy
2009-05-12
I don't know what kind of flower this is, but it looks like a kind of poppy, and it's very sharp. Nearly every part of this plant, save the flower, is covered in little thorns. I grabbed this shot by setting my macro lens to autofocus and holding it under the flower - I wasn't looking through the viewfinder. If I had been, I wouldn't have cut off the top of the flower, but oh well. I took a number of shots like this, but this one has the focus on the bottom of the flower - the other times it focused on the bottom leaf and left the flower blurry. Thank goodness for digital.
I modified the background color (the blues) in Lightroom to be more interesting (to me, anyways). I like the contrast of the 3 elements - the plain sky, lovely flower, and sharp spines.
P.S. I'm flying to Tucson tomorrow for my brother's graduation from UA, so I'll be posting the next few dailies late, probably on Saturday. Congrats Mark!
