Giant Green Pinecone
2009-08-26
I got my computer back from the Apple store, so I'm finally using Lightroom again!
Today I took a 15 minute break and walked through the botanical gardens. I saw some signs that said "Caution: 10-15 lb cones falling from tree" and I didn't think much of it, until I saw this monster. I wear size 12 shoes, so this thing is massive. Can you imagine this hitting you? It could kill you! Gardens can be dangerous places, I guess.
The tree is Araucaria bidwillii, native to Australia. It's also known as a bunya-bunya - how cool is that?

on August 29, 2009So cool! With the selective coloring technique you used, the cone almost looks like it's flat.
