Royce Entrance
2011-07-12 In anticipation of using only my iPhone for daily photos for 3 weeks, I've been looking into panorama apps. I've always liked Pano for it's simplicity, but you can only do a single row panorama. I like Photosynth for it's amazing ability to capture a 360 degree panorama in just a minute or two, but it's low resolution. Today I bought AutoStitch, and I'm pretty happy with it. Of course, I pushed it to the max right away, and it couldn't quite handle stitching together 40 photos of the entrance to Royce Hall. This is a subset of those photos, and I turned off blending, which is why it appears like a mosaic. I used Lightroom to convert to black and white. I think it looks cool and I'll definitely be experimenting more in the coming weeks. [last year]

I'm not sure what you call these things, but there was a whole table of them at the Sony store at the mall in Century City. It's set up specifically for you to test their cameras so I obliged, but with my phone. Remarkably, the Microsoft store was way cooler than the Sony store. The Apple store still puts those carbon copies to shame, and all three are within about 100 feet of each other.
Then we saw Harry Potter v7.2, which was pretty cool. Did you hear there's a book about it? Who knew?

Here is my librarian friend Janet posing with two of her most colorful cross-stitch creations. They were on display today at her retirement party, which was quite the shindig. She was kind enough not only to pose, but to give a great smile too!
I edited a bit in Lightroom, mostly to correct color issues caused by the all-fluorescent lighting. I love this room with all the old books - they provide such a <a href="http://www.jawsnap.net/Daily/year4/16022532_dVzfk#1383101170_Dmb7W7G">great backdrop</a>.

This is a 3-shot panorama stitched together on the iPhone using the Autostich app, the same thing I used for my <a href="http://www.jawsnap.net/Daily/year4/16022532_dVzfk#1381588854_3pnQKWh">7/12/11</a> daily. I'm still figuring out some interesting things about the app - this 3-shot panorama is higher resolution than a 20-shot panorama of the same scene, even though I told it to use the higher settings and it took a very long time to render... not sure what's going on there.
Anyways, this is the ceiling of Powell Library at UCLA, specifically the western staircase. It's a very pretty building...
