This is, of course, the Santa Monica Pier, which I've photographed many, many times before. My wife and I got dinner and then walked down here afterwards. I was worried this photo was too similar to one I took 364 days ago, but after comparing the two, I like today's much better. That's good, as my goal is to always be improving.
You can't tell in the photo, but there was all sorts of action happening in the water below - I've never seen anything like it. There were hundreds of small fish, or perhaps squid, that were jumping out of the water. They were making little splashes all over the place, but it happened too fast to really see them. Eating the small fish were about 5 sea lions, which would sometimes jump clear out of the water as they chased them, making huge splashes. Most of the folks on the pier were completely unaware that this was happening. It was really cool.
