Moon Over Venice
2012-05-05
Tonight I fought the Cinco de Mayo crowds and managed to find a parking spot near the Venice pier, my vantage point for this shot. Tonight is the 'super' moon of course, so it was especially big and bright, not that I could necessarily tell. It was quite spectacular to watch it rise over the beach homes.
Even with a 300mm lens, I could not zoom in far enough to get a detail shot of the moon that I actually liked. Instead, I prefer this wider view with reflection on the water. I actually tried pasting a shot of the moon itself onto this photo to add detail, but it looked terrible.
Hopefully I'll win the lottery between now and the next perigee moon (the scientific term) so I can pick up a 600mm lens a really do it justice.
Oh, I almost forgot! I used The Photographer's Ephemeris to plan my location for the shot. What a great tool.
[last year] good for what ails you...
