All Dried Up
2012-03-11
Today ended up being far more interesting that I would have guessed. Can I tell you about it? OK, thanks.
So last night, the power went out as part scheduled work by SoCal Edison. However, it was still not back on around 9:30am or so, which meant we had to go get breakfast somewhere. We chose the always-outstanding Snug Harbor. We came back home stuffed and hung around until the power went out again, yay.
At that point, we headed over to Fairfax/Wilshire for a variety of reasons. First, we wanted to see the LACMA Rock in its final place after a 11-day, 105-mile journey that ended early yesterday morning. If you recall from Friday's photo, we went to see it as it crawled along. I can't wait for the finished piece to open.
Next, we headed to Samy's Camera on Fairfax, their flagship store. It's an old bank building, and it's really awesome - I'd never been. Too bad the 4th floor (high-end pro stuff) is closed on weekends. Still, there was plenty of neat things to ogle.
Finally, we headed across the street to the Fairfax Farmers market for a late lunch. We went to Short Order and got one of the best burgers I've ever had. Seriously. Then we went downstairs to their sister store, Short Cake, where I got a twice-baked hazelnut croissant and a fancy latte. Both were outstanding and left us stuffed for the 2nd time (it is definitely a 2-meal day).
On the way home, we managed to drive on Wilshire from Beverly Glen to Veteran before encountering a red light. If you know that stretch of road, you know how awesome that is. And when we got back, the power was back on!
So yeah. A good day. I highly recommend doing any one of those things if you're in Los Angeles.
Oh, and this old service station was on Fairfax, between Samy's and Short Order.
In related news, this is far more information that I would normally share. Next week: back to normal-length captions? Stay tuned to find out!
