Spiral Notebook

I didn't have much time to shoot today and I was getting desperate, so I turned to stuff I had lying around on the desk, like this spiral notebook. The white light is provided by a little pen flashlight, the blue light is provided by yesterday's daily on my computer screen, and the spirals themselves are red. I used my compact, so I was able to literally stick the lens inside the large spirals. I think it's pretty cool.
In other news, I passed the 6-month mark for the dailies on Friday and I didn't even notice! I've had a great time trying to come up with a photo every day, and it's great to have an encouraging community of people doing the same thing, yet with so many different styles. Thanks for all the comments! I'll try to be more active in commenting myself...

Here's my first super wide angle daily, using the Tokina 11-16 I rented. I had promised another for yesterday, but I did my entry for <a href="http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=183504">DSS #64</a> instead.
This is the rotunda in Powell Library at UCLA. It's pretty vast, so it's a good subject for an ultra wide lens. I shot a few other places on campus that I thought might benefit from this lens, but conditions were pretty bad.
This is the last SLR daily photo for a week - tomorrow we fly to Hawaii! Thanks for all the well wishes. I'll try to keep posting daily photos via iPhone during the trip.

Get it? The pages look like a heart. It's very clever. I am sure I am the first person to have thought of it.
Sarcasm aside, it does look cool and I wanted to give it a try myself. Turns out the pages don't align themselves very well when you do so many, although that might be due to the super-thin pages of this Bible that I used for the shot. I actually kind of like the irregularity.

As you may have seen from <a href="http://www.jawsnap.net/Daily/year3/11272102_ACXDJ#914606053_3Sv6K">yesterday</a>'s photo, my parents came to visit! It was a short visit but we had a good time. They brought me some things that belonged to my grandfather, including a Remington Standard typewriter. It's not super-old, but it is fully manual. For this photo, I used my macro lens and a simple on-camera bounce flash while pressing down some of the keys. It's such a mechanically complex piece of equipment - I'll certainly take some more photos of it in the future.
At the risk of making some of you feel extra old, I'm pretty sure I'd never used a typewriter until yesterday! If I have, I don't remember it. It's fun, though - the main thing that struck me is how much harder you have to press the keys compared to a computer keyboard.
