Antique Glass
2011-07-28 This afternoon I had the opportunity to photograph a collection of glass eyes from Germany that date back to the 1860s. Considering that these were completely handmade, the detail is astounding. The box contained 50 different glass eyes, but I was immediately drawn towards these hazel colored ones, perhaps because I have hazel eyes myself. I was surprised to discover that they're not symmetrical. I touched up the background in Lightroom to get rid of dust and lint, and I blackened the pupils a bit. I did not do any white balance adjustments - the subtle green tint was part of the glass. While I have your attention, go check out my blog post about iPhone panorama photography. This is a 3-shot panorama stitched together on the iPhone using the Autostich app, the same thing I used for my <a href="http://www.jawsnap.net/Daily/year4/16022532_dVzfk#1381588854_3pnQKWh">7/12/11</a> daily. I'm still figuring out some interesting things about the app - this 3-shot panorama is higher resolution than a 20-shot panorama of the same scene, even though I told it to use the higher settings and it took a very long time to render... not sure what's going on there.
Anyways, this is the ceiling of Powell Library at UCLA, specifically the western staircase. It's a very pretty building...

Grabbed this shot in the library. I like the symmetry of the chairs with the messiness of the shelves. Most of the shelves are much more homogeneous than this one.
