Old Dog Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre Our guide told us a lot about the pack structure of the African wild dog. Most interestingly, they never kick anyone out - if you were born in to the family, you can stay forever. The pack size needs to stay small though, because the hunting group will feed everyone else before they eat themselves. So, once the pack gets too big, the hunters won't get to eat as much, which means they aren't as good at hunting and then everyone starts to go hungry. At that point, some of the pack will voluntarily leave and start their own.
