<a href="http://www.jawsnap.net/Daily/year3/11272102_ACXDJ#856355677_MjvFv">Yesterday's</a> photo left me wanting more, so I used the same setup with my bicycle light (3 LEDs) and spun it all around. This was my favorite shape thingy, so I took it into Photoshop to invert and whatnot. I'm pretty happy with the erratic pattern - I used the same clamp as yesterday's photo (watch the <a href="http://www.jawsnap.net/Utility/Setups/8246339_SpVpq#856424261_UMtx4">setup video</a>).

Quick desperation shot today - it's a strainer with soap bubbles (I was washing it) that I set in front of my off-camera flash. I added Lightroom 3's Split Tone 2 preset and tweaked it a bit.

<em>Water Drops, Day 1</em>
I've been itching to photograph some water drops since I took a short hands-on lighting class months ago at the <a href="http://www.aquariumofpacific.org/">Aquarium of the Pacific</a> on <a href="http://www.jawsnap.net/Animals/Aquarium-of-the-Pacific">Photographer's Night</a> with <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/pva1964/">Paul Van Allen</a>. His setup was so simple, I don't know why it's taken me this long to do it.
I would have included a setup photo but I want to play around more - this was just my first attempt. I took dozens of photos, as you might imagine, but this was the most interesting to me because of it's unique shape and nice symmetry. I cranked the noise reduction to give it a nice smooth look.

Continuing my non-consecutive theme of Hawaii-themed shots in anticipation of my trip next week, I shot another hibiscus plant in the botanical gardens. This one is <em>Hibiscus arnottianus</em>, native to Oahu and Molokai. The 3rd result on the scientific name on Google is, in fact, a <a href="http://www.botgard.ucla.edu/html/membgnewsletter/volume4number4/Hibiscusarnottianus.html">page on the botanical gardens' website</a>, how nice is that? Apparently this species is quite adaptable to SoCal's climate.
I wanted to get some sort of interesting non-standard shot, so I got super close to the flower so there were all sorts of out-of-focus stamens. The pink-on-white is pretty neat, it looks like a peppermint candy reject.
My next plan is to bring my tripod and flash and take detailed shots of the lava rocks that adorn the Hawaii section of the gardens. Hold me to it!

Today's wet photo is of some agave in the UCLA botanical gardens. I had my macro lens, but this was as close as I could get without getting stabbed by the plant next to it. The clouds cleared up this evening, so hopefully that's the last of the rain for a while.

This plant has caught my eye many times before - it's near my bus stop, and the afternoon light makes it look pretty cool. Until today, I'd never had my camera with me.
