2010-01-19 Mini Volcanos SETUP So, the idea of this photo was to have smoke drifting out of the holes on this giant shell. I propped the shell up on jars (which just happened to be handy) so I could put burning incense underneath. I lit 3 sticks to make sure I had a good amount of smoke. I used the built-in and off-camera flash, and I experimented a lot with moving the off-camera flash around. After the first few shots it became obvious that I needed to use the snoot to properly highlight the smoke. This photo shows the final placement. I blew the smoke away before I took each shot so the smoke coming out the holes was well defined. All-in-all it worked pretty well, but I'd like to try the same thing but light the smoke from the inside the shell.

on January 20, 2010interesting to see how you did it. I clicked on your link and saw the actual smoke picture - cool! There was no hint all this other stuff was being used. Now if I could just figure out what the computer speaker is for.... :)
